Ah, the beginning. We are finally seeing the fruits of our master plan to split the Republican party!
Mike Huckabee, our favorite religious right nutjob, has won the Iowa Caucus by a commanding 9 point lead over that other religious right-but-not-the-right-kind-of-right nutjob Mitch Romney. According to exit polls, huge numbers of theofascist christians (aka evangelicals) turned out to vote
New Hampshire will be a huge challenge for Huckabee though. The vote there happens in four days, and there aren’t anywhere near as many evangelicals as in Iowa (coincidentally, New Hampshire has far better schools and tons more money). No matter, because the next vote happens in South Carolina, which is a barrel full of monkeysevangelicals. Huckabee should have no problem taking South Carolina, which will provide him with enough momentum and money to cruise into the next phase of elections.
Soon, Huckabee will win the Republican Nomination, and we will all see that the “social” (aka closet homosexual) Republicans want another George Bush to be President. The “fiscal” (aka Let them Eat Cake) Republicans will split and join some indepedents to vote for psuedo-libertarian Ron Paul, while the rest will join the Democrats in voting for whoever wins that nomination.
Why will the fiscal Republicans split? First, they will see an ally in Ron Paul, whose psuedo-libertarian viewpoints will be shared despite his other views and crackpot allies. Second, Huckabee is positioning himself as a pious good-ol-suthern boy, and they certainly won’t like that either. Lastly, I think the smarter Republican will want to give the Presidency to a Democrat. The next president, whoever it is, will have to deal with Iraq and Iran. There will probably be another terrorist attack in America (after all, Pat Robertson has predicted it). If a Democrat is in charge, and things go badly in our “War On Terror”, the Republicans will be able to take back the legislative branches and the presidency by 2012. In chess, sacrificing a piece as part of the overall strategy is a wise move. I think the real powers behind the Republican Party realize this.
